Diplomacy axis
Internationalist vs Nationalist
Should your country tie itself to others, or stand on its own?
Strong Internationalists picture a united world government; moderate ones simply like alliances and bodies such as the UN or the EU. Nationalists range from wanting to stay out of foreign conflicts to believing their nation is better than all others. This axis is used for the diplomacy part of your ideology match.
Internationalist
Countries should work together through alliances, regional unions and global institutions, and be accountable to each other.
Statements that score Internationalist
- “A united world government would be beneficial to mankind.”
- “I support regional unions, such as the European Union.”
- “International trade is generally beneficial.”
Nationalist
A nation's sovereignty and its own people come first. International bodies and alliances mostly limit what a country can do.
Statements that score Nationalist
- “My nation is better than all other nations.”
- “International aid is a waste of money most of the time.”
- “It is important to maintain our national sovereignty.”
In practice
Where it shows up
It drives debates about membership of the EU, Mercosur or NATO, foreign aid, international courts and climate agreements, dual citizenship, and whether national law should give way to international treaties.
A common misunderstanding
Nationalist here does not mean xenophobic, and Internationalist does not mean wanting open borders; immigration has its own axis. This one is about whether your country should bind itself to others or keep its decisions at home.
Reading your score
A moderate Internationalist score fits most supporters of alliances and trade blocs. Above 85% you lean toward shared or global institutions; below 30% you prefer a country that acts alone and keeps its distance from international bodies.
